What are dishmobs and cashmobs? Maybe a more realistic question is, “Why should I take anything called either seriously? Most of us have heard of cashmobs at this point either on the radio, in the local paper or through social media. The first cashmob was started by a blogger in Buffalo, NY in 2011 to help support a local wine shop. Since then, cashmobs have taken place at hundreds of small businesses throughout the US. A cashmob is when local residents choose a favorite small business in their neighborhood and then ask their friends to meet them there at a selected time. When they all mob the business, each resident spends $20 or more to show their appreciation for the business and it’s owners.
